04 Jan Another new design released…..
by Three Irish Girls 🙂 Last summer Sharon asked if I would want to do the December pattern for her Yarnista Sock club – how thrilling to be included with some of my favorite designers! Anyhow, of course I jumped at the chance and this pattern is the result……
The yarn is Three Irish Girls Cary BFL, a lovely to work with yarn (I want to do some shawls with this yarn). Sharon custom dyed this colorway for me and it is beautiful. In keeping with the Irish theme I wanted to create a pattern that brings to mind the Giants Causeway off the northwest coast of Ireland. Here is part of the description from TIG’s web site…..
“This pattern, designed exclusively for us by Jean Clement, captures the wonder of the Causeway surrounded by the North Atlantic Ocean, with lace columns and a pattern that spirals around the leg. Knit from the cuff down with one skein of Carys BFL Sock, a light-medium fingering weight yarn.”
In order to really convey the feeling of the ocean surrounding the Causeway I came up with a unique lace stitch pattern. Using only 48 sts this sock will fit several foot sizes because the lace is so stretchy. It’s a fun knit that goes quickly. It usually takes me two plus weeks to knit a pair of socks but these socks knit up much quicker – my knitting time is early morning or after dinner. The leg is charted only since the design spirals around the leg yet it’s very easy to follow. If you are new to using knitting charts this would be a good one to try. And I hope you will 🙂
Cheers! Jean
